PILKINGTONS ROYAL LANCASTRIAN ART NOUVEAU PERIOD FLAMBE LUSTRE ART POTTERY VASE
A TRULY EXQUISITE PILKINGTONS ART POTTERY HIGH-FIRED FLAMBE LUSTRE VASE. The nicest piece of Art Pottery I've offered for some time, here is a small but most beautiful vase from the Pilkington's factory. Although very much in the orientalist manner (what with its lovely high-shouldered form and rich sang de boeuf type glaze), the decoration, which can only be described as exquisite, is bang-on period for the Art Nouveau aesthetic of the time. The top has a brushed design which is is both geometric yet organic and depicts a six-pointed star, with lobes of dark fruit grapes? Hanging in between each point. Very tricky to photograph owing to the reflective, high-gloss, high-fired lustre glaze, which, when moved, flashes to purple, pink and copper. On occasion, the star design flashes through into emerald and chrome greens, but this has been tricky to capture with the camera. Redolent of other such similar works by the likes Ruskin, this is a very special little pot. This vase is fully marked to the underside, albeit partially obscured by pooled glaze. The shape number appears to be 292, with a date stamp which I believe to be for 1913.
A painted capital'R'is also present, which could signify this was possibly made by Gladys Rodgers. A most festive pot and an excellent addition to any Pilkingtons collection. Height: 15cms X Width: 12cms (at the shoulder). All my items are sent very securely wrapped/boxed using lots of bubble wrap and sent on a first class, fully tracked and signed for service. Collection in person is possible.
