Royal Doulton Francis C Pope Art Nouveau Tulip Vase
A strong Francis C Pope Royal Doulton Art vase hand initialed F. P and numbered 1354 with initials RB above the number below there are two chracters I can't make out and the number 47 plus the Royal Doulton stamped mark. The vase measeures 8 5/8" or 22cm x 6 1/4"or 16cm.
The condition is hard to describe it would be easy to say that above the base the condition is perfect however to be as accurate as possible I have to say that you can see glaze marks if you rotate the vase in bright sunlight, these occur at the widest point and have probably occured when the vase has been moved about during its long life. In normal light you would not see them. None of the marks impact on the slip finish. The base has two very old chips that impact on the face by a few mill in each case, there are other tiny nibbles to the base rim. On the shoulder there is a blob of pottery that has been glazed over, this is natural and has occured in manufacture, refer photo 12.
Having tried to be as negative as possible I have to say it is a super piece that displays well the insised tulips works very well with the greyish blue drip type glaze. Please see the 12 photos that I hope do the piece justice. Pet and smoke free home.
